Humidity sensors.
In measuring the humidity inside the car the sensor identifies the tendency of condensation to form on the windshield and thus prevents misting to provide greater driving safety. The level of humidity inside the car and the surface temperature of the windshield are continually monitored. Humidity sensors are also used to maintain a comfortable level of humidity in the car interior.
Two types of humidity sensors are available:
- The standard sensor in use today is the contacting sensor, which is in direct contact with the windshield and measures the temperature on the inside surface. Measurement of the ambient humidity and subsequent analysis is performed in the same way as with non-contacting sensors (see below).
- The non-contacting sensor measures the ambient humidity and temperature of the car interior using infrared technology and uses this data to calculate the dewpoint. This is then compared with the windshield temperature measures with the non-contacting sensor. If the values are close, there is a risk of condensation forming. This sensor is incorporated in high-end systems.
